Membership is open to ALL residents of the Sun City Peachtree 55+ active adult community in Griffin, Georgia.

Who we are…
W4SCP – Sun City Amateur Radio is a Community Association sanctioned interest group of FCC-licensed amateur radio operators and non-licensed radio enthusiasts, located in Sun City Peachtree, a 55+ Active-Adult community in Griffin, Georgia, 30 miles south of Atlanta, serving the needs of our Sun City residents in all aspects of ham radio communications.
Whether you are interested in talking with local amateur operators on the Sun City W4SCP repeater, helping your community during emergencies, learning new radio skills, studying for and taking a radio license exam, exploring the various digital modes, making long-distance or international contacts, building radio projects, or even learning Morse Code…there is something for everyone.
There are so many facets to the ham radio hobby and there is likely one that would interest you too. All Sun City Peachtree residents are welcome to join us and come check it out for yourselves.

What we do…
— We encourage fellowship among amateur radio operators, anyone interested in radio
communications, and those seeking a ham radio license, with fun activities across a wide variety of amateur radio interests.
— We organize and provide trained personnel and radio equipment for essential radio communications during emergency situations in support of Sun City Peachtree’s Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), as well as in support of officials in Griffin, Spalding County, and the State of Georgia as needed.
–We own and operate the W4SCP Sun City Amateur Radio UHF repeater on 443.600 MHz, with a positive (+) offset, and a PL tone of 110.9 Hz, and we are operational 24/7.
— We provide training and testing for unlicensed persons who desire to become licensed amateur radio operators and for licensed amateurs that want to upgrade from their present license classification.
— We conduct monthly membership meetings and on-going training seminars on a variety of radio subjects to further the technical skills and education of all members.
— We hold weekly, on-air radio traffic nets to bring together all amateur radio operators within range of our repeater for fellowship, training, and testing of equipment. All licensed amateurs are welcome to join the net each Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm on the W4SCP repeater.
— We offer programs and activities for advancing the general public’s interest in amateur radio.

What is happening…
We conduct our monthly membership meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month, at 10am. Because of the recent pandemic crisis events, these meetings are being held using the Zoom video-teleconferencing tool until further notice. In addition, we host a weekly radio traffic net each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm, on our Sun City W4SCP repeater, with a frequency of 443.600 MHz, with a positive (+) offset, and a PL tone of 110.9 Hz.

Getting your license…
Sun City Amateur Radio is authorized by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) to administer examinations for both new amateur radio licenses (Technician class) and license upgrades (General and Amateur Extra classes). We offer testing both in-person and remotely using the Zoom video teleconferencing tool.
During the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, in-person testing is currently limited to Sun City Peachtree residents only; however, our video supervised exams are open to anyone. All exams are by appointment only. For more information about getting tested, email us at SunCityAmateurRadio@gmail.com.

Spalding County Amateur Radio Club (SCARC) – SCARC is our sister club here in Spalding County and many of our members also participate in this club activities. SCARC provides emergency communications for the Wellstar Spalding County Hospital during disasters and offers radio license exams both in person and by video.
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) – The ARRL, the national association for amateur radio, is a vast resource for all aspects of amateur radio. It advances radio technology and education, advocates for access to radio spectrum, and organizes and trains volunteers to serve their communities by providing public service and emergency communications.
eHam.net is a community site designed and operated by and run for active Amateur Radio operators (hams). It is packed with useful information including, articles, propagation reports, product reviews, community forums, and more.
HamStudy.org is a free service to help those seeking their first amateur radio license (Technician), as well as, those who want to upgrade their license to a higher level (General or Amateur Extra). Study with flash cards, learn with in-depth explanations, and get ready with practice exams.
